Alpharetta City Officials Pay Up
By Ryan Ward | October 28, 2007
Alpharetta City Officials take responsibilty for sprinklers watering the shrubs of City Hall.
In typical fashion and as an example of the quality of representation expected in Alpharetta, the city council and Arthur Letchas, Mayor of Alpharetta, paid fines for accidental water usage with personal funds.  Here is an excerpt from a press release on the City of Alpharetta’s website:
“Regardless of the reason, the sprinklers on City property were active during a time when our region is experiencing a level four water crisis and we need to be held accountable for these violations,†voiced Councilman Doug DeRito, Council liaison to the Department of Public Safety. “Although every effort was made to ensure we were in compliance on all City properties, our most prominent municipal structure, City Hall, still had sprinklers in operation. According to our own Ordinance, I and my colleagues on Council, not our citizens, have a fine to pay,†continued Mayor Arthur Letchas.
The City Administrator received the collective funds from the Mayor and Council to pay for the violations. “They (the Mayor and Council) have requested that the funds be earmarked specifically for educating the public on water conservation efforts and/or be provided to a non-profit charitable organization that specializes in water conservation,†stated City Administrator Bob Regus.
I would like to personally say thank all of you and it is representation like this that helps to keep Alpharetta one of the premiere locations to live anywhere in Metro Atlanta. This type of responsible behavior sends a good fatih message that you actually care about what you do.
Kudos to you!
