Atlanta Blog Now Contains Dofollow

By Ryan Ward | August 13, 2007

I decided that it would be a good idea to add the dofollow plugin to my Atlanta blog to provide some incentive for people to comment on my blog. I think it may help entice some people who are Reading the blog to actually post a comment. To add the dofollow plugin by itself, I thought, would not really go far enough so I also added the notify me of new comments. The idea isn’t just to give away links to people, but, to actually entice conversation so notification of new comments should help here. So now that I have the dofollow to give back a bit, I have a few rules that I would like people who post to follow:

That’s it. So hopefully there will be something here that is of value to you as a blogger - especially if you are in real estate somewhere else. The internet has provided great opportunities to learn and share information in ways that were never possible before and I hope you find something of value here.

    Ryan,

Glad you added the do follow to comments. I’ve been on a campaign to get bloggers to do this very thing. Over at the real estate blog lab.

One other thing to note. It appears that posts with comments stay in the active index on Google longer. So you provide a link with do follow and they help keep the posts searchable in the index.

Great blog, first time I’ve been here. I’ll take some time later and look around more. Tucson MLS Stats came out today so I’m busy working up the analysis.

The only other thing I would add to Ryan’s request, don’t just leave a “Nice Blog” comment to get a link. I moderate my comments and those hit the spam can immediately.

I’ll have to check that, but, I have noticed some of the same as far as posts sticking longer with comments.

I use two sitemap plugins. One is the xml format. I will post it over on your blog. Since my blog is on my real estate domain and I installed these plugins, I have gone from about 65 indexed pages to almost 200. There is an obvious benefit to helping Google and the other SE’s figure out what you want them to see.

Glad to see the do-follow. I don’t know if you have set up Firefox to highlight no-follows, but I just recently did this and I love it. Every link is looked at and any with the no-follow are highlighted Red, so you can quickly see, without looking at the source. Gotta love Firefox.

    Ryan -

I’ve followed suit w/ the do-follow on my blog. I don’t have much material up yet, but feel free to check back & comment whenever you feel like it. It’s mysite/blog.

Also - thanks for the list of plug-ins for WP - very easy to install, and great enhancements of the blog.

Dennis - the no-follow highlight is awesome! I’m actually annoyed now when I’m on any computers besides my own - I’m subconsciously scanning for the no-follows everywhere!

I think the plugin that goes hand-in-hand with the dofollow is the notify me of new comments plugin…It helps to keep the conversation going…

One other thing I’ve noticed is that the posts linger in the SERPs longer if they have comments - just an observation. Nothing really to back that up. I’ll have to check yours out. I noticed you were #1 for “austin real estate”. Congrats. I bet the traffic is better…

    Ryan -

I´m compiling a list of do-follow real estate blogs. Right now, the list is VERY short. Take a look, and comment some other sites, if you know of them.

Ryan, we are going to follow your lead at the Elegant Blog over in Augusta. We’ll put a link up over at Eric’s blog as well. Your ‘rule list’ is very appropriate, and very well done as always!

Ryan you have a slight mis-spelling your sentence reads “who are reding the blog to actually post ”

I think you mean “reading the blog”

Thanks Morgan, you’d think with a spell check I’d use it!

Great idea, Ryan. What a great way to generate content by getting people involved in a discussion. It is like many of us do in various forums, but more area specific and very public.
