Atlanta Hero Award
By Ryan Ward | December 9, 2007
This is my small way of giving back. I hope to add a new Atlanta hero as often as I can. My definition of a hero in Atlanta is simply someone who has given of themselves in the hope of helping someone or something else.
This weeks Atlanta Hero award goes to all of the people in Atlanta and organizations such as Kroger and Project 9-6-1 who have gone above and beyond replenishing the merchandise stolen from the Empty Stocking Fund.
For those who don’t know, the Empty Stocking fund is a non-profit organization who collects gifts for the underpriveleged and “working poor” to give out for Christmas. This year thieves broke in and stole more than $50,000 worth of merchandise set aside for these families.
The outpouring of support from these organizations and Atlantans has been so overwhelming that to date, they have exceeded the $50,000 stolen and have helped to replenish the Empty Stocking Fund to more than $150,000 in gifts. today, all who have given can be heroes.
If you would like to help the Empty Stocking Fund, you can add your donations here: https://www.givedirect.org/give/givefrm.asp?Action=GC&CID=260

Ryan - nice to see you helping the community. I’ve been involved in a mumber of things here in Austin and find it very rewarding. I wish more people would get involved.

I’m going to try to add a new hero weekly. I have a strong platform that that people read so I thought it would be a good idea to give recognition to others that help and give back.

Ryan,
Its nice to see you giving a little back. I personally enjoy giving some time at the local Iron County Care and Share.
