Greatest Real Estate Agent in the World

By Ryan Ward | February 12, 2008

Greatest real estate agent in the world! What’s that mean to you? Well, for this, it’s actually a competition to learn a bit more about how to use the internet to market ourselves as real estate agents and to help effectively market our listings on the internet not only locally, but, around the world like only the internet can. The idea came from a friend of mine, Eric Bramlett. Here’s his entry to the greatest real estate agent in the world and there’s a host of prizes including a website valued at almost $5,000 offered by Morgan Carey, owner of Real Estate Webmasters and 5 articles written by Eric Bramlett for the winner of the competition. Really, it’s about the learning, but, I thought it would be fun to try to put together what we might expect from this “Greatest Real Estate Agent”. While I’m at it, I’d like to give some credit to Eric Blackwell for his interesting idea on a twist of the greatest real estate agent in the world contest.

I suppose a good place to start would be an agent who really knows, understands and can explain the local real estate market to the client. Next, I would expect the this agents negotiation skills would be superior to those around him and I would expect that this agent would be very honest with their clients and would favor tactfully conveying messages - even when they are not good to their client instead of telling them what they want to hear.

The greatest real estate agent in the world would have an uncanny ability to to remember homes that expired without selling and have more that other agents don’t know about to show his clients. They would also deeply care about each and every client they had an opportunity to meet with and I bet this agent would have no trouble remembering names either (I admit, this is definitely one of my weak points). Most importantly, I think that the greatest real estate agent in the world would work diligently and on behalf of his clients to be the best advocate possible going above and beyond to provide a level of service unsurpassed by other agents.

So, what do you think? What else would you expect from the greatest real estate agent in the world? Please let me know and feel free to send a link to this post which would certainly go a long way towards helping me win.

Super Agent would need to be able to explain, interpret, and convey the trends of the market to their clientele. Not to say that we need to be soothsayers BUT I think the agent that can understand the economics and trends whether their easy to identify or not could put lots of extra money in the clients pocket at the end of the day. No different then a stockbroker, you want him to call you (first preferably) when it looks as if the market is going to sell off.
This also will help the super agent to price correctly and place offers for buyers if you have no clue what the market is, then you cant be very effective in negotiations.

The best part of the contest for me, so far, was that I found your blog. I’ve enoyed the posts I’ve read especially the one on tightening up loose ends.

I haven’t visited all of them, but your site seems to have been broadly appealing for a long time. I’m glad I found it.

the greatest realtor in the world should be voted #1 by their community . there should be a Top Ten list of requirements to meet, including the realtor who gives back the most to his community, the realtor who is voted #1 by their piers and/ or their community. the realtor who has developed the best customer satisfaction, which is measured by percentage of repeat and referral business.

  35. Benjamin DeBell Says:

I agree with you because it’s one thing to be able to market a website and get in ranked, but what do you do if you can’t help these people out because you know little about the market? To be a great agent you have to know your target area and be knowledgeable at your market, A lot of agents don’t have this ability.

  46. Cal Carter Says:
    March 10th, 2008 at 12:23 pm

It got quiet because everyone got sick of the mean spiritedness and demeaning statements. Who wants to participate in that? Seems theres always a few that want to tear up the playground so no one can enjoy it.

  47. ARDELL Says:
    March 10th, 2008 at 2:09 pm

    Cal,

We often hear that from both sides with regard to Active Rain. Many get angry with people who don’t simply say “Great post!” while others get sick of a hundred comments that say “Great Post!”.

I agree though that using other people’s blogs to talk about a pending lawsuit was over the top, and reacted accordingly.

However having an SEO contest and expecting not to discuss the differences between content driven SEO and other types of SEO, doesn’t fit the Wikipedia description of an SEO contest.

When ActiveRain and Inman News sponsored “Project Blogger” last year there was a lot of controversy. That controversy helps to establish different guidelines for future contests, and so was deemed of benefit. Though I am not hearing about a second Project Blogger, so maybe the sponsors did not agree :)

  48. Cal Carter Says:
    March 10th, 2008 at 2:38 pm

    Active Rain?

    Pending lawsuit?

    Reacted?

    Differences?

    Fit Wikipedia description?

    Controversy?

I said, “It got quiet because everyone got sick of the mean spiritedness and demeaning statements”. Thats all.
